Well, this is unpopular.

Another clue:

An English rose refers to a native tree/shrub that is a member of the rose family.

The rest are pretty straightforward, and I think once one or two have been found the connection should be apparent.

Sorry, none of those are right.

I think once the connection is found a lot more will go quickly. As it's been pretty slow, I'll give some clues.

Think more literally for 1 and try more recent options for 3 and 8.
