Precisely how was the question worded again?

Re: Mixed Martial Artists and Ultimate Fighting Championship

I prefer questions which can be answered by non sports fans if they had done the requisite research. In the same way that I maintain a decent level on art/culture despite not being well read or cultured , I think it should be possible for people to improve their sports scores by making an effort to...

Re: Mixed Martial Artists and Ultimate Fighting Championship

Its a matter of taste. UFC/MMA is of no interet to me, Contract Bridge is. Both have tournaments which are reported in the press, so, for me, both are legitimate sports and its up to the compiler whether to include questions. I'd say the point is precisely that UFC and MMA aren't really reported in...

Re: Mixed Martial Artists and Ultimate Fighting Championship

Heh, this has obviously put the cat among the pigeons. I should say I don't think Jesse was criticising these kinds of question per se, whereas I was, so I'll respond. I completely accept that thinks like MMA and WWE have "armies of dedicated fans", and I know Peter is one of them, which n...

Re: Mixed Martial Artists and Ultimate Fighting Championship

I too had noticed this trend, Jesse. I think four questions on these kinds of "sports" in two months is grossly excessive - to my mind they might merit, say, one question every three or four events - but not very much more than that. As you say they are not considered mainstream sports, an...

Re: How to go about improving significantly

Yes, quite. The amount of times my "reasoning" behind an answer would sound something like "yeah, there's a U and an I and it's short - five or six letters long. Maybe an unusual letter in there, <Twenty minutes later> Ah, yeah, QUIPU, get in." would be considerable.

Re: How to go about improving significantly

Every quizzer would answer this one differently and every answer will have sense in it. There's no hard and fast way to improve, but if you've got the time and the dedication, I'd firmly expect you to improve. As others have said, do quizzes. Even the most bog standard local pub quiz will assist you...

Re: Forming an Only Connect Team

Good luck forming a team Timbo.

I've already been on the show I'm afraid, but can warmly recommend the experience to any level of quizzer. The production team are a class act and you will be well-treated, and the show is a really fun experience.

Re: Redtooth

I think Redtooth are pretty dreary. That's not a problem in itself, but if you live in an area (as I do) where about 60-70% of pub quizzes are Redtooth, it becomes very dull. The basic format of the standard quiz is OK - and I actively like the ideas behind the "two groups of five", missin...

Re: Can anyone Help?

No problem chaps; I appreciate a long trek into town isn't possible for everyone - good luck in finding a local league if there is one. As to question difficulty, the QLL website currently only shows "friendly" sets written by its constituent teams, and not the actual competitive sets whic...
