Quest November GP

Postby Chris » Sat Nov 04, 2017 5:29 pm

We seem to have all the Grand Prix scores in and these are now online, HERE. We have posted details of the annual ‘Brows’ HERE.

We were delighted to see the turnout for this, our first November GP in 14 years of the circuit. As most will know, the first Saturday of the month has customarily been set aside for the European Quizzing Championships (EQC), but this year it had to be moved to the second weekend of the month, and this gave us the chance to consider hosting a domestic event today. Given that attendances at Quest events are now so much larger even than the considerable numbers of quizzers who grab their passports and head for the EQC, we thought it the right thing to do by the 100 and more quizzers who would otherwise miss-out on the chance to rack-up ranking points. So, and at fairly short notice we slipped the extra event in, combined with the ‘Brows’ quiz everyone seems to enjoy.

Obviously foreshadowing the impending EQC events, this GP set turned out to be one of the tougher ones. However, and while only a small band of players made it through the 100 barrier with their best-five genres aggregate, there were nevertheless some very impressive individual genre scores including two which might also be debut wins of their kind for the players concerned. I refer here to Ian Orris’ formidable 27.1 on ‘Art, Culture and History’, and Michael McPartland’s storming 28.3 on ‘Sport and Games’. Certainly there was no shortage of players in the 20s across all genres.

We heartily congratulate Didier Bruyere who has triumphed once more in a domestic UK GP, this time with a winning score of 115.6. He was ahead of Kevin Ashman (109.1) and Pat Gibson (107.4) with fourth place taken by Scott Dawson (104.0). In fifth place in a field of 176 - his best ever result – was Ian Orriss with 101.1. Well done him!

Here are the medal positions, by genre.
