Post Quiz Agenda - Altofts / 2 Feb

Postby Chris » Sun Jan 20, 2013 4:20 pm

After the Altofts Grand Prix concludes on Saturday 2 February (sign-up page HERE), we will be adjourning to the nearby city of Wakefield for beer and curry, and for some their trains home.

Those quizzers needing to head to Westgate train station (for onward travel to London, etc.) might have time for some swift refreshment, in which case they could do worse than The Elephant and Castle, which is on Westgate, across the road from the station. For the rest of us though...

Our traditional watering hole is Fernandes Brewery Tap & Bier Keller, a family owned pub that sells real ales, many of which come direct from the linked Ossett Brewery Company. The front door gives access to a staircase leading to, on the first floor a bar specialising in lagers and continental beer (see second image), and above that, in the opened-up loft, a larger bar selling, principally, real ale.

The bar is located in Avison Yard (Wakefield WF1 1UA) just behind a 'parade of shops' which also, very conveniently, houses the 'Red Chilli II' restaurant, and a reliable mini cab firm also, for those journeys back to one's hotel.

Please note: other (quality) bars and restaurants are available (not just 'Indian') which I'm happy to discuss. Be aware though that one reason Fernandes and Red Chilli II tend to be used is their proximity to easy parking (100m from restaurant, at the junction of Kirkgate and George Street, and proximity to the Travelodge on Lower Warrengate, WF1 1SA).

I'd propose that folk discuss below their plans for the evening and preferred meal times (It may be we need to make two bookings for the restaurant, one early and one later).

I was most taken with Red Chilli last year, so I'm more than happy to go there again. Ideally, I'd prefer an earlier sitting (7.30 or 8ish).

I also vote for the Red Chili but as I'm staying overnight I can manage a later sitting - but 7.30 sounds good.

Actually, yeah ... if there's a 7.30 sitting, I will stay for curry after all.

Sorry we're not staying, but it's the first game of the Super League season - Saints v Huddersfield

At the moment we have, for the curry...

Andrew
Anne
Colin
Dick
Ken
Neil (plus Marion?)

Me (+2 possibly).

I propose to make the one, 7.30 booking. I know Ken prefers to eat later but doubtless if he orders papadums and a starter his main course won't arrive before 8.30 so should have been able to work-up an appetite by then :)

Me? I only ever pick at food, hardly eat anything at all really.

I am naturally happy to bow to the wish of the majority. But I might have to nibble a little at the outset, then come back for a proper amount as the evening wears on - such a trial.......

Please sign me up for a 7:30 sitting at the curry-house.
Looking forward to it.
Roderick

Will do! Chris
