Kingston Grand Prix

Postby Jane » Wed Jul 15, 2015 11:05 pm

Our next Quizzing.co.uk Grand Prix takes place at The Richard Mayo Centre, Kingston upon Thames, Surrey on 1st August 2015. Upwards of 70 of the country's top quizzers are expected to assemble there for individual and team events. The venue is within easy walking distance of Kingston train station, itself just 30 minutes from central London.

The Richard Mayo Centre is situated in the centre of Kingston upon Thames, a vibrant Surrey market town at the heart one of London’s liveliest boroughs. The Mayo Centre is equidistant from the Ancient Market and the Coronation Stone, believed to have been the site of the coronation of seven Anglo Saxon Kings. As the name suggests Kingston stands on the banks of the River Thames and the riverside is lined with restaurants, cafes and bars. There are many hotels, chains and independents, if you fancy making a weekend of it.

Grand Prix Schedule

11.00 - 11.30 Registration
11:30 - 13:00 Individual quiz
13:00 - 13:45 Individual quiz answers and scoring
13:45 - 15:15 Buffet Lunch
15:15 - 16:30 Team Quiz (equitable random draw)
16.30 - 17.30 Hot100 and answers
17:30 - 17:45 Prize giving and closure of formal event

Entry fee for the full day, including all quizzes and buffet lunch is £25. First-timers get half-price entry.

The Richard Mayo Centre can be found in
Eden Street

Kingston is well served by buses and trains and car parking is available next door at Eden Walk multi-storey car park.

Many thanks to everyone who supported the event, and who helped made it happen. Particular thanks to Andrew Teale for road-testing the indie set, to Tony Gold for another of his splendid team quizzes, and to Cristian Pop for another lovely set of Hot100 questions. Thanks also to those who helped with the domestic today, especially Andy Tucker and Kevin Ashman for helping set out the tables and chairs!

99% sure to be there. Will have to shoot off back up North straight after the team quiz though, so if there's any chance that the indy results 'n' that could be done before the Hot 100 rather than after, that would be much appreciated. Ta.
