Pat Gibson has triumphed in the inaugural MindSweep event, an individual quiz organised by the Karnataka Quiz Association (KQA) of India. The event saw 350 participants from eight nations, spread over 25 venues, and was played-out over the first weekend of January (Sat 7th & Sun 8th).
While competing countries included Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, Norway, USA, and India, it was quizzers gathered at Coventry in the United Kingdom who took the main honours. As well as filling the top three places, UK based quizzers either shared top place or won outright in seven of the ten component topic areas (see later).
The contest overall was won by Pat Gibson who scored 110 points out of a possible 200. Kevin Ashman was second with 101 points and Mark Grant took third place on the same score, losing only on a tiebreak rule (involving comparison of lowest topic scores).
The top scores from each of the other participating countries were as follows:
USA: Dan Melia (82)
Norway: Lars Heggland (69)
Germany: Sebastian Klussmann (43)
Malaysia: Movin Miranda (74)
Singapore: Caleb Liu (52)
Sri Lanka: Samanth Subramaniam (78). Lathike Niriella made 42.
India: Swaminathan G. (76)
