Pat Gibson triumphed over his friend and rival Kevin Ashman, seizing back the Mark Bytheway Trophy and the title of British Quizzing Champion that goes with it. Pat later partnered Kevin as they defended their Pairs title. While in retrospect they outscored the other 34 competing pairs they went out at the Quarter Final stage to eventual Knockout winners David Stainer and Olav Bjortomt (former champions themselves) The pairs of Alan Gibbs & Anne Hegerty and Mark Grant & William De'Ath just missed out as losing finalists.
Many thanks to everyone who helped to make yesterday possible, especially Neil Phillips who organised the English venue and who, along with family members, kindly helped ferry people from Kettering to Rothwell. I'm only sorry it wasn't possible for me to attend the meal last night to enjoy his company as well as the fruits of his hard work.
We should also extend many grateful thanks to Ewan McNaught who once more made the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh available (where 19 participated). Cheers Ewan! Thanks also to Derek and Johnny in Dublin, where another 15 quizzers joined the fray.
A quick look through the results shows that all the medal spots were taken by the quizzers gathered down in Rothwell!
We're still awaiting scores from Singapore, in the meantime here are the provisional scores from the British Isles for the BQC and for Great Britain only for the 'Brows' quiz.
