Re: Continuous Quiz: Tenpin Bowling
Possibly 2 is the o-o-o. The others are all tautonyms. While troglodytes at the double represents the wren its unitary form denotes those at the bottom of the property ladder. Cave at emptor etc.
Re: Continuous Quiz: Tenpin Bowling
9 is o-o-o as the Eel is migratory in its breeding/life-cycle, going off to the Sargasso Sea. The other 9 creatures are all quite capable of living their entire lives without being absent from the British Isles at any time.
Ah, except the answer is Troglodytes, not Wren. Bugger!

Re: Continuous Quiz: Tenpin Bowling
Sorry Chris, whilst your reasoning is faultless, the answer I was looking for was troglodytes
(troglodytes) which is the latin classification of the wren. Full list is:
1/ British company produced local hero GOLDCREST - REGULUS REGULUS
2/ Cave dwellers TROGLODYTES - THE WREN
3/" Painter men" perhaps? PINE MARTEN - MARTES MARTES
4/ Robin Hood in 1973 FOX - VULPES VULPES
5/ Dorset brewery logo... BADGER MELES MELES
6/ ...and Wiltshire cider BLACK RAT - RATTUS RATTUS
7/ Falls in the Yukon OTTER - LUTRA LUTRA
8/ Murgatroyd on the box,1968 to 1980 MAGPIE - PICA PICA
9/ 19th Century PM?Taking the p! EEL -ANGUILLA ANGUILLA
10/ Treacherous informer,or vice versa? GRASS SNAKE - NATRIX NATRIX
Your turn, David. I reckon a troglodyte at least has a roof over his or her head!

Anybody seen David May?
Re: Continuous Quiz: Tenpin Bowling
Nope, David's gone AWOL on other threads too. The baton is lying on the ground, waiting for the first willing person to pick it up...
