No, but Gary Grant, the current Mastermind Champion, is also a racing driver but not Formula 1 so could be the OOO

I believe Al Stewart is Scottish, although you have alerted me to the fact that there are almost certainly other American singer songwriters who fit the theme, though I don't think any do quite as well as the one I'm looking for.

For the quiz machine, I'm looking for a non-human.

Right, after a brief flurry of activity this has been dead for a week, so it's time for some more clues. Only three remain:

3. Ghost story author
The ghost story by this author has been successful in three different media.

9. US singer-songwriter
This musician's most famous song is pertinent to the connection.

10. Quiz machine
This machine has won an American quiz show.

9. Tracey Chapman

From your clue, I am thinking of Colin, although I am not sure if he was ever a driver - the ooo maybe? ( I am assuming that the song is "Fast Car").

By the way, I was tempted to give Paul Simon as an answer earlier but I could not resist checking it on Wikipedia and ruled myself out, for that reason. They have a French driver called Andre Simon listed. I am now assuming that you do not mean him as I cannot see the connection with "Bridge Over Troubled Water".

Tracy Chapman is who I'm looking for, and Colin Chapman is the odd one out.

André Simon wouldn't have fitted my theme, as they are all British Formula One drivers, other than the designer/team principal Colin Chapman (although Chapman was entered into one race, he never started it).

I perhaps should have stated that they were all British when the connection was found. It should certainly help finding the two remaining answers.

10 is IBM's Watson, which beat Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter on Jeopardy!

Hopefully this clue for 3 will finally wrap things up. The ghost story in question has been a novel, an enormously successful West End play and, only last year, a Hammer film.
