Probably not what you had in mind, but Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau both appear uncredited at Awards ceremonies in 'Chaplin'.

Not what I had in mind at all but if it's true then the baton is surely yours and I'll find a better way of asking the same question next time.

The thing is, yours is such a cracking question, I'm more inclined to leave it open until someone solves yours, if it's all the same to you

I suspect that the movie in question is Being John Malkovich. I don't know which actors had cameos but I know that there were a few in the film. This might jog people's memories (or much more likely, allow them to Google and pretend to have remembered :D ).

Correct film.
And Pantscat is right in that there are a number of cameos but most are credited.
And don't count scenes of other films shown on TV and cinema in the film. I am looking for two people who stood in front of the camera for their mate who then went uncredited.

OK,
I'm not here much for the next three days so rather than let it drag on I'll give you a clue now.
One of the two nominated actors beat the other nominated actor when he won his second Oscar.

Another clue then.
In winning his second Oscar he proved that he wasn't lactose intolerant.

Guessing it must be Sean Penn for role in Milk? But that's as far as I can go without looking up Oscar nominees... Hope that triggers a response...

Yes, it is Sean Penn in Milk leaving one more to get who was nominated in the same year.
Someone please Google it, it's dragging on now.

Having wikipediad it looks like Brad Pitt. If I'm right the baton should obviously go to someone who got a bit of the answer without needing wikipedia.
